State highway plan has money for UC

The new state six-year highway plan (2005-2010) was released last week and there are several projects for Union County.

These projects include the widening of US 60 from Morganfild to Waverly, the Waverly bypass and painting the Shawneetown Bridge.

The specific plans call for.

-- Design, right of way acquisition, and utility reconstruction for the widening of US 60 from the proposed Waverly by-pass to Corydon, a distance of some 4.5 miles. The cost was set at $8 million.

-- Design work only for a widening of KY 56, including a Spring Grove bypass. The project covers some ten miles and he design work will cost $1.5 million.

-- Power wash and paint the Shawneetown Bridge over the Ohio River. The cost was set at $2.5 million.

-- Major widening of US 60 from the Morganfield bypass to Waverly, a distance of just under four miles. The plan calls for right of way acquisition, utility reconstruction and actual construction at the total cost of $19.7 million.

-- The right-of-way acquisition , utility reconstruction and actual construction of the Waverly bypass at the cost of $12.85 million.
