Lucy L. "T.T." Garnett Crittenden, 69, of Sturgis, died at 6:10 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2004 at the Ferro Hospital in Eldorado Ill.
Mrs. Crittenden was born July 11, 1934 in Sturgis, the daughter of the late Rev. Shelby Garnett and Claudia Richards Garnett.
She was a member of the Mt. Sterling Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sturgis where she was an active member for over 35 years. She was past president of the Missionary Society, past president of the Senior Choir, an Elder and officer of the church, and a member of the church culinary dept., and usher board.
She made history when she became the first black Matron of the Union County Police Department.
She was a school bus driver for the Union County School Corporation for over 20 years.
Survivors include her husband Clarence; one daughter, Claudie Crittenden of Clarksville, Tenn.; one sister, Margaret Houston of Sturgis; two brothers, Shelby Garnett Jr., of Morganfield and Russell Garnett of Hope Mills, N.C.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two aunts; one uncle; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 1, at the Mt. Sterling Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with the Rev. William Greenwell officiating. Burial was in the High Hill Cemetery in Sturgis.
Mason and Sons Funeral Home in Madisonville was in charge of arrangements.
