The state Department of Transportation has announced that KY 56 (West Main Street) is scheduled to be closed near the west limits of Morganfield this Thursday morning at around 7 a.m. and remain closed through Friday.
The road will be reopened to traffic on Saturday.
The road will close just past the KY 130 intersection (South Chapman Street), at mile post 12.365, for the installation of a new metal pipe culvert.
The culvert will replace an old wooden culvert evidently installed by the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad many years ago.
All appropriate barricades, signs and other traffic control devises will be used to mark the road closure. A detour will be assigned.
The work is related to the US 60 Morganfield bypass which is nearing completion.
There is still hope the bypass will open around December 1, though last week's heavy rains on Thursday and Saturday slowed work a bit.
