Artella Elizabeth Harris, 94, of Uniontown, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Louisville.
She was born in Uniontown Sept. 12, 1915 to the late Isaac and Fannie Grundy Rudy. She retired from the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center after more than 25 years of service. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Uniontown. She was an avid reader and loved to write. She enjoyed traveling, working, gardening, crocheting, sewing, and helping others. She was a graduate of Louisville Catholic Girls School and was wed to George E. Harris Feb. 21, 1933 in Uniontown. She had also worked at the Camp Breckinridge Army Base.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Harris; her parents, Isaac and Fannie Grundy Rudy; a daughter, Peggy Harris; and three sons, Thomas Eugene, Marvin Harris and George Harris.
Survivors include one daughter, Darlene Holt and husband lynn of Louisville; four sons, Donald Rudolph Harris, Lawrence Harris and wife Margaret, and James Herschel Harris and wife Mildred, all of Gary, Ind., and Larry Harris and wife Gwen of Park Forest, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Uniontown. The Rev. Terry Devine will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, where prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
