Rep. Whitfield awards grant for Sturgis Airport

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield (KY-01) announced Thursday that the Union County Airport Board has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration to be used to make improvements to the Sturgis Municipal Airport.

“I am pleased that the Union County Airport Board has been awarded this grant to make important upgrades to the airport,” Whitfield said. “Projects such as these will not only help better serve residents of the region, but go a long way in promoting the growth of our local communities.”

The funds awarded today are being provided for hangar construction at the Sturgis Municipal Airport. The hangar construction will allow the airport to meet their aircraft storage needs and those of the aircraft owners who utilize the facility.
