After reviewing applications from 13 candidates and conducting interviews, the Union County Site Based Decision Making Council (SBDM) has named Greg Bowles as Principal of Union County High School.
Bowles was previously the Assistant Principal for UCHS.
The SBDM utilized feedback from the recent online survey it conducted. In total, they received 356 surveys, with the majority surveys coming from students themselves.
Students and staff prioritized a sense of humor and a people person, while parents and community placed communication and a strong academic outlook at the top of their lists.
Council member Donna Wolfe felt that Bowles has shown himself to possess these and other characteristics that the community was looking for. "We really took to heart what the surveys showed," she stated.
Of the surveys completed, 286 were from students, 27 from faculty, 26 from parents, and 17 from the general public.
According to Superintendent Josh Powell, “Mr. Bowles has already made several positive changes at the high school and is eager to lead the way in creating a culture that values high academic student achievement."
"I fully support Mr. Bowles as we push forward with immediate urgency and meet the demands from our staff, students, and community for academic excellence.”
The official decision to hire Bowles was announced at Thursday's special called meeting of the SBDM.
Bowles hopes to name an Assistant Principal within the week.
