EZ-Access takes on new production lines

EZ-Access is moving the production of three lines of product from Seattle to Morganfield.

Recently, the Morganfield plant has entered into an agreement with the nation’s largest modular building supplier to supply ramping and steps. The Morganfield operation will supply the steps for the contract, and Seattle will supply the ramps. However, in order to help with the increased demand on HomeCare Products, EZ-Access will take on a portion of the company’s portable ramp line.

Three production lines will be moved to the Morganfield division. Currently, six employees from EZ-Access are in Seattle for training on these products, and as the business expands, EZ-Access will take on further responsibilities of the product line, says Dave Bailie, Director of Manufacturing for HomeCare Products.

“The three product lines that we are moving to Morganfield are some of our bread and butter products that we sell to our bread and butter markets. We ship almost two miles worth of these ramps each month,” said Bailie. “This (move) will provide stability to our presence in Morganfield while new markets grow.”

Planning for the spec building continues, but the recent down turn in the economy and increasing construction costs have delayed the start of construction there, Bailie explained.

“Sales of the product lines manufactured in Morganfield took a bit longer to get off the ground than we had hoped. You always take a risk when launching a new product into a new market,” Bailie stated. “That said, with the kinds of sales numbers we are forecasting, we will be looking to expand production in Morganfield soon.”
