Uniontown holds successful cleanup

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

The Uniontown City Council met in regular session on Monday.

Magistrate Jerri Floyd was in attendance and advised the council that the clean up was a huge success again this year. Over 23 ton of rubbish was picked up. He and Mayor Kevin Ferguson thanked everyone who helped with the project, city workers, county road crew, inmates, Shari Fenwick and Allison Fenwick who cooked lunch for the crew and the three teenage boys, Jaybo Fenwick, Joseph Burke and Michael O’Daniel who worked side by side with the crews.

Floyd also noted that the new basketball half court was completed and being used every night.

Mayor Ferguson noted that the city had kept their liability insurance with KLC and had also acquired dental insurance for the employees at a reasonable price with Health Resources.

County resident Jason Greenwell verified that Ancestor’s Day had been cancelled for this year due to some unforeseeable problems and the time factor. Represenatives are looking at next year.

The house the city acquired on Third and Main will be demolished sometime this week, weather permitting, with the help of the county.

Mayor Ferguson has asked for an extension on the $500,000.00 grant, wet weather has slowed the progress.

There will be a key presentation to the Boyd’s who purchased the last GRADD house on Ruark Drive on June 12, at 11 a.m.

Mayor thanked Attorney Williamson for his help with the levee recertification extension, the papers will be signed by our deadline.

As we have purchased a newer dump truck our old international will be sold or scrapped, whichever shows the most profit for the city.

Marty Fenwick stated the Greenwell’s had asked him where we were with the drainage problem around their home and several neighbors in the same area. Marty gave the Greenwell’s and the council an update. He stated that new tile was a possibiliy that would run the drainage into the storm sewers from 6th Street to 2nd Street and relieve the problem for several areas. City engineers have been working on a solution and he agreed this looks like the best idea.

A motion was made to go into closed session to discuss storage and disposal of property. When the meeting reopened, no new items were discussed.
