County Man Wins Auto In Drawing
Robert Roberts, prominent farmer, of near this city, held the winning ticket in an automobile drawing on June 30, at the Catholic Orphanage picnic in Louisville, he was advised last week. He and Mrs. Roberts went to Louisville Sunday to get the new car, a Master Chevrolet.
Mr. Roberts said that he had been buying books as an aid to the orphanage for several years, but never had much hope of winning the big prize. In cleaning their car several days ago, Mr. Roberts said he and his wife came near throwing the tickets away.
Tom Byrd’s Tomatoes grow in Clusters
“Charlie Aton may have apples that grow in clusters like grapes, but shucks, that isn’t anything compared to my tomatoes,” Tom H. Byrd, of Spring Grove told The Advocate, a few days ago, and Saturday he brought in one of his clusters of tomatoes that proved he knew what he was talking about.
On one vine he displayed were eight good-sized ripe, red tomatoes, and every one looked like a picture. Mr. Byrd said he had many others growing in similar style. He stakes up his tomato vines.
Band Will Play Saturday Night
Another of the series of band concerts sponsored by Morganfield merchants will be gien in the court house yard Saturday night, July 24. The program will open at 7:30 p.m. and continue for one and a half hours. It is free and the public is invited.
The music will be furnished by the Morganfield High School band under the direction of Goodwin Thomson.
Locals Drop Close Game to Central City
Morganfield lost to Central City 1 to 0 in a fast game played there Sunday. Osborn Sale allowed Central City only five hits, but the locals were impotent against the hurling of the Red pitcher. They will play Princeton there Sunday.
