Fire At Lindle Bros. Monday

Approximately $250 loss by fire was suffered by Lindle Brothers, owners of Lindle Bros. Grocery Monday morning.

The fire was discovered at 6:30 by boys out on the street, who immediately turned in the alarm. Mr. Lindle said the fire was started from defective refrigeration.

Greenville Man Votes Twice; Sent To Prison

Boyd Knight, 30, was found guilty in Muhlenburg circuit court at Greenville Friday of voting twice in the August 1935, Republican primary election and sentenced to one year in prison.

Union Gets Its First School Check, $4,984

Fifty-seven common school districts in Kentucky received checks Friday from the State Department of Education for the first installment of the 1936-37 school per capita. Friday's payment, the first of seven to be made during the current school year, totaled $282,318.

Union county's check for the first payment totaled $4,984.

Two Held To Grand Jury In Corn Theft

William Posey, 17, and Russell Carter, 21, both of Uniontown, pleaded guilty to charges of storehouse breaking Monday at their arraignment before Judge Earle C. Clements in Union Quarterly Court. Both were held to the October grand jury under $500 bond.

The couple is charged with breaking into Rudy Ruark's crib at Uniontown and stealing 600 pounds of corn, which they sold to Cliff Catlett for $4.40. A warrant was issued for Catlett Tuesday charging him with knowingly receiving stolen property.

Dr. Covington To Go To Harvard University

Dr. A. Y. Covington, director of the Union County Health Department, will leave Saturday for Boston, Mass., where he will enter the post graduate school of Harvard University for a nine month course in public health work. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Covington.

Dr. Covington will be replaced here by Dr. E. W. Atherton of Carlisle, a doctor of equal experience in public health work, and there will be no interruption in the health program in the county.

Dr. Atherton and Mrs. Atherton arrived in Morganfield Wednesday.

69 Pigs In 7 Litters

Mrs. A. W. Buchanan claims ownership of a sow that is making a record. The sow now has 11 fine pigs, and also raised 11 out of a litter of 12 in January. The last litter made a total of 69 pigs in seven litters for the sow, with only five pigs lost.

Entertain With Bridge

Mrs. J. E. Meacham and daughter, Miss Eleanor Meacham, were hostesses to a seven-table bridge party Tuesday evening on the Wesko Balcony. A delicious ice course was served after games.

Rideout-Johnson Wedding Wednesday

Miss Desseree Rideout, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Rideout, and A. O. Johnson, Paducah, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Y. Johnson, Sturgis, were quietly married Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church, with Rev. Cy Hutcherson performing the ring ceremony.

Miss Chela Rideout, sister of the bride, and Jim Linford, Evansville, were the only attendants.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Class of '33 at Sturgis high school. Mr. Johnson graduated with the Class of '34 here, and is employed in Paducah by the West Kentucky Coal company.

The couple left immediately after the ceremony for a honeymoon in Chattanooga, Tenn. They will make their home at 305 North 6th St. in Paducah.

Births

Mr. and Mrs. Philip Greenwell of near Raleigh are the proud parents of a daughter, born September 11.

Woman's Club Plans Meeting September 23

The Morganfield Woman's Club will hold its first meeting of the season on Wednesday afternoon, September 24, according to announcement yesterday by the president, Mrs. Thomas P. Lilly.

The meeting, scheduled to begin at 4 o'clock, will be held at the home of Mrs. A. W. Mason on South Morgan street. The program for the coming year, involving music, history and drama, will be discussed. Seven new members will be initiated into the organization at the meeting next week. All members are urged to attend.
