286 Dogs Killed In County In August
Two hundred and eighty-six unlicensed dogs were killed in the county during the month of August, records in the office of Sheriff Conway McMurray revealed this week. During the same period 300 dog tags were sold, bringing the total sales for the current year to 1,350.
The August increase in tag sales is attributable to the activity of the dog wagon which was run throughout the month. The livestock fund is the recipient of much of the tag sale receipts, but a good part of it goes to the state, and to the collector. Expenses of operating the dog wagon are also paid from the tag receipts.

Vaccination Law Will Be Enforced
Dr. A. Y. Covington, director of the Union County Health Department, yesterday issued the following statement:
"Final notice is hereby given to all parents to have their children vaccinated for smallpox before sending them to school. In Kentucky the law states that no child shall attend school unless he or she has been successfully vaccinated for smallpox, and in the face of a nation-wide epidemic of smallpox, the Union County Board of Health has requested the health officer to carry out the compulsory vaccination law.
"The teachers of all the schools in this county have been instructed by the health officer to exclude all children from school who have not been successfully vaccinated. A successful vaccination means that it must take or an official record of three unsuccessful vaccinations will be accepted as satisfactory by the county board.
"Vaccinations have been offered to school children for several years, and this summer various clinics were held in the county for this purpose. As previously stated, no vaccinations will be given in the schools this year.
"Splendid cooperation has been given the health department by the great majority of the parents in having their children vaccinated. Carry the children to your family physician or bring them to the health department's office any time this week except on Friday or Saturday afternoons.
"Have your children vaccinated immediately in accordance with the State law and avoid court action."
